Located in the New

Building
The Division is composed of
the Business and Information Technologies Department
(Degrees and Certificates in Accounting, Business
Administration, Computer Science, Office Administration,
and Real Estate; and Industry Certifications), The
Small
Business Development Center,
Distance Learning, and
Corporate Training.
The mission of the
Division primarily is to organize and provide
instruction in the areas of business and information
technologies for individuals locally, state-wide,
nationally, and internationally. To accomplish this
mission, we offer:
-
Programs to provide
students with specialized training and skills that
will enable them to become employable and competent
in their discipline.
-
Programs to provide
students with skills that will allow them to
matriculate successfully in a four-year college or
university setting.
-
Programs to provide
knowledge and skills that will prepare students to
function as intelligent citizens and consumers in a
business-oriented society.
-
Programs that meet the
special needs of the community.
-
A
Small Business Center
that offers services to entrepreneurs so they can
build a growing and stable platform that will enable
them to expand.
-
Assistance with campus
online courses
using
BlackBoard,
Tegrity, and offering them to be a
part of the
Southern Regional Electronic Courses (SREC).
-
Current issues in
business and industry so they can be competitive.
-
Provide and instill in
students the importance of community services and
their obligations.
Our students have
placed
state-wide and nationally in the diverse areas of business, accounting,
office administration, information technology (computer
science), and
community service in their prospective student
organization (PBL - Phi Beta Lambda). This experience alone has provided them
growth in their vocation.
As a matter of fact, a large proportion
of the employment opportunities in the United States and
abroad are in the majors that we offer. The
Division students are afforded the
opportunity to prepare for a career and/or
transfer to a four-year institution to further pursue a
baccalaureate degree in their chosen area of study.
Our
Associate of Arts and Associate in
Science Degrees entail a liberal arts-based curriculum
combined with the basic courses that prepares the
student to transfer to a four-year institution with the
classification of a junior. Students are advised to use
STARS at all times in the arts and sciences
degrees.
Our
Associate of Applied Science Degrees entail hands-on
experiences and affords each student the opportunity to
have an understanding of real-life experiences through
required internships/co-ops. Over 95% of our
students are placed before graduation.
Our workshops/seminars
through corporate training and the Small Business Center are
intense. Clients leave with a better understanding
and appreciation for their area of expertise.
Moreover, over $1.3 millions have been written in
technology grants, since 2000, to train elementary,
middle, and secondary educators, staff, and students in
the various technologies of the present.
We have
partnerships and memberships with leading IT
and business organizations that enhance our delivery of
services to all areas in the Division.
Our
faculty represents
diverse backgrounds and expertise. They are highly
qualified and are committed to the success of all
students. Continuing Education is factual in our
division. Presently each full-time instructor are
working and gaining certifications, and advanced
degrees. This shows their dedication to the
College, Division, and most importantly, the students.
Students play
an important and active role in the life of the
Division; they are valued members of the Lawson State
family. Students work closely with faculty and often
work with them several times a week. Each student is
treated as an important individual, with unique goals,
drives, and needs. The
Division's faculty, staff, and dean serve as academic
advisors to our students.
The college has
computer labs where all
computer-related courses meet. The computer labs provide
the student with state-of-the-art computer hardware and
software that will aid in preparing work for all of
their classes. Open lab time is available for usage
outside of class time as well (during the week and
Saturdays). Students are encouraged to maximize their
use of computers in all of their coursework.
The Division strives to
become stronger each year because of the desire to be
the “best of the best”, which makes the student highly
marketable in their endeavors. This meets our goal
to provide students with a strong foundation upon which
they can continue to build as the profession changes.
