Is Online Learning for Me?

 

Online learning is not everyone.  It takes motivation and commitment on your part.  If you think that online courses take less time than traditional face-to-face classes, think again! To make the most out of your educational experience, take our quiz to find out if online learning is for you.

 

Technical Requirements

 

It is the student's responsibility to ensure that they have access to a computer that meets the minimum hardware and software requirements to participate in an online course. Keep in mind that the minimum system may be slow and cause some frustration. 

 

Note: Some courses may have additional hardware/software requirements. Please review each course listing for special requirements.

 

Minimum Hardware Requirements:  Blackboard developers recommend the following hardware specifications:  Minimum Hardware Requirements:

 

The following hardware and software are minimum specifications to work with the Blackboard application:

Platform: Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, or ME; MacOS 9 or MacOS X

Hardware: 64 MB of RAM, 1 G of free disk space

Software: Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Reader

Browser: Client Browser Configuration Guide

NOTE: JavaScript & Cookies must be enabled.

Modem: 56 K

 

Logging in to Blackboard

 

  1. Click on the Blackboard link on the home page of the college’s website (http://lawsonstate.edu)

  2. Click the Login button.

  3. In the Username: and Password: fields enter in lower case letters, the first three letters of your last name and the last four digits of your social security number.  For example:  doe1234

  4. Click the Login button.

 

Accessing E-mail

 

  1. Click on Student E-mail or go to https://mail.lawsonstate.edu

  2. In the Name: field enter your first initial, last name, and the last four digits of your social security number.  For example:  jdoe1234

  3. In the Password: field, enter your six-digit birth date.  For example:  03-06-86

  4. Click the Login button or hit Enter.
